I was invited to a cocktail hour at The Flatiron Room, and the selection of bottles available at that private bar just so happened to include Jura 10, something I wanted to try but wouldn’t have been super keen on paying for myself. While I’d have been over the moon if some of the other bottles in that building had been available to me, I was happy enough to get to have a few glasses of this.
Minutia: Matured in ex-Bourbon casks and finished in ex-Oloroso Sherry butts.
Color: Amber.
Nose: Nutty, fruity, maybe figs. Wine-like smell. Honey.
Taste: Oak, spice, bit of smoke from green wood, or dead wood that’s wet. Thin feel.
Finish: Lightly spicy, some smoke. Long on some sips, short on others.
This was better when the finish was longer, so those sips would be a point or two higher, but I went with a score for the lower end. This was a bit thin, and inconsistent, mostly in the finish. Not terrible, but it could be better.
Score: 72
