2019 Advent #15 - Bruichladdich The Laddie 8

Bruichladdich has been among the best of the unpeated malts I’ve enjoyed. I’m pretty happy to be having an age stated variety, even if it’s a bit young. But with the proof and the spirit quality I’m not anticipating that being a problem.
Bruichladdich The Laddie 8, Islay Single Malt, 50% ABV
Minutia: Matured in American and European Oak casks. Enjoyed neat in a glencairn.
Color: Deep gold, .8.
Nose: Funky, smoky, malty, fruity. This came in in a big way, and quickly jumped right from one to the next in that order. It was all that in the initial whiff and subsequent nosing has these elements in various degrees.
Taste: Malty, smoky/oaky, fruity.
Finish: Fruity, malty. Medium
Guess: A Laddie, possibly peated and in a weird cask configuration, but unlikely.
The reveal makes sense, basically on the pour I was 99% sure Bruichladdich distilled it. They continue to be the unpeated malt I not only like well enough, but actually like. The nose was by far the best, and as the notes suggest, pretty much one element drops off at each stage in the process. It somehow has a small amount of things going on, but in a very interesting way, so having some complexity.
Score: 83
