Tobermory 10

Being a huge fan of Ledaig, I wanted to try the unpeated whisky for the same distillery. Fortunately they have a peated and unpeated expression with the same age statement so it should pretty much be just a difference of peat.

Toberymory 10, Island (Mull) Single Malt, 46.3% ABV

Minutia: Matured in ex-Bourbon casks. Enjoyed neat in a glencairn.

Color: Burnished, 1.1.

Nose: Very malty, grassy, woody. There’s a vague berry/cream/parfait type aroma hidden in there.

Taste: Sharp fruit flavor right away, honey, some spice.

Finish: Sweet maritime character, feels a bit light/thin.

It makes sense how much I like Ledaig. I like this but wanted it to be smoky. I think I liked this more than I would have in the past when stuff that wasn’t smoky/peaty just wasn’t appealing to me at all, so that’s cool to see. This is a solid unpeated offering, with a bit of that island/maritime character. I didn’t find the funkiness nearly as pronounced as in Ledaig.

Score: 80

SMWS Name: Honey I malted the barley
