Without much access to these bottles, fortunately another one came up as available as a sample. Being able to have a Lagavulin IB for a decent price is nice, since I don’t see them around all that often.Elements of Islay Lg10, Islay Single Malt, 57.4% ABV
Minutia: Matured in 2007in three ex-Bourbon barrels and bottled in 2019 making a total of 986 bottles. Enjoyed neat in a glencairn.
Color: Amber, 0.7.
Nose: Bright fruit and smoke, musty, some sea-like quality not quite like brine.
Taste: Tropical fruit, peppery burn. There’s a tiny bit of smoky flavor, but not much. Salt.
Finish: Long. Brine, tarry smoke.
I really liked how it changed from the nose to the finish. It’s unusual in my experience for a flavor like smoke to be present on the ends and mostly absent in the middle – I typically find that a flavor comes in and remains or drops and stays out. Lagavulin makes some nice stuff, and I’m glad to have had a very small batch and am looking forward to the other bottles I currently have.
