Jura 12

Given I’ve noticed I tend to like malts from Islay and the Islands, despite the generally poor perception of Jura, I’m still determined to give distilleries a chance on my own. I’ve liked Talisker from Skye for quite some time, have recently absolutely fallen for Mull’s gem that is Ledaig, and enjoy Orkey’s Highland Park well enough (though am still forming a proper opinion). Maybe Jura of Jura won’t disappoint.
Jura 12, Island (Jura) Single Malt, 40% ABV
Minutia: Aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. Drank neat in a glencairn, rested 10 minutes.
Color: Gold.
Nose: Reminds of Black Label, slightly smoky malt, but here there’s some apple, maybe a bit of leather.
Taste: Chocolate, raisins, toffee.
Finish: Smoky, short, honey.
This was fine, but there was nothing much going on. Not the best introduction to the distillery, but nothing about it was bad that I’d want to steer away from the spirit entirely.
Score: 71
