Caol Ila 12 Revisited

This was the first whisky I reviewed and in that review I noted it was a bottle that was years old and the cork had disintegrated and was replaced with a wine cork thing. Even if you ignore my lack of experience at the time it may not have been the best for evaluating given the age/cork situation and I planned to revisit it. As I go through core offerings from Islay and Island distilleries familiarizing myself with their general profiles, it seemed appropriate to revisit this at 20.
Caol Ila 12, Islay Single Malt, 43% ABV
Minutia: Enjoyed neat in a glencarin. Rested about 15 minutes.
Color: Pale gold.
Nose: A little medicinal, pear, smoke, a bit of anise.
Taste: A tiny bit malty only just after the sip. Smoky melon, light spice, vegetation.
Finish: Lingering. Pepper, green wood fire.
So really it looks like the cork situation didn’t play much of a role, just my experience allowed me to find some more distinct flavors and aromas. It was interesting to re-review this however, with a more developed palate. I am looking forward to redoing Uigeadail as well, as probably that ABV that early in my experience with tasting whisky made me miss some things.
Score: 91
