Bunnahabhain 18

At a fancy steakhouse for a bachelor party, what better time to go a bit over the top where you would normally go as far as whisky. This was enjoyed and reviewed neat on September 14, 2018 at Wolfgang’s in Manhattan at 8:00.
Bunnahabhain 18, Islay Single Malt, 46% ABV
Color: Dark gold.
Nose: Less peaty than standard Islay, boozy, maybe some citrus, iodine.
Taste: Low citrus; low dry, hard, herbal; some hot, malt; tiny bit oaky; low peat; slight pepper; some salt; less spice; some smoke, tiny; tiny bit woody.
Finish: Smooth, molasses/caramel.
This is good, and evolved over time without adding water or ice, but the peaty flavor is what I like most about Islay malts, so this wasn’t quite for me. I am looking forward to trying some of the peated expressions from this distillery, however, and even other standard varieties they offer.
Score: 76
