Ardbeg 10

When I learned I liked Islay single malts, I went shopping for a new one to try and keep on hand. The store I chose happened to have an Ardbeg set which also included two 50 mL bottles of other varieties, so it seemed like a no brainer. This was enjoyed and reviewed neat in September 2017 at home.
Ardbeg 10, Islay Single Malt, 46% ABV
Color: Pale gold.
Nose: Meat, peat, smoke.
Taste: Maybe a bit hard; somewhat herbal; a bit oaky and peppery; quite peaty and smoky; not terribly salty; a bit woody.
Finish: Meat, warm, smoke/peat. The smoke fades into vegetation.
For lack of a better way to describe it, this is a whisky with very obvious flavor. When you want Islay flavor and want it big, go for this one. That said, sometimes I don’t enjoy this too much when I pour it, I think mood has a lot to do with my enjoyment of this one.
Score: 81
